So many publications mention the new GT-R will carry some design cues from past Skyline GT-Rs and the GT-R concept shown four years ago. I hope it does away of the sedan-shape seen especially from the R34 chassis. We've heard that it will use the FM platform used by the 350Z and G35, which means that it will likely be more coupe-like.

I just get annoyed when the production car looks nothing like the concept.

There are a few manufacturers that display practical concepts that are converted into production cars. Usually concept cars are used as design excersizes to get some sort of response from the public and automotive world. Depending on the response it will determine whether or not the idea is the best direction the manufacturer will go. Usually smaller companies don't provide concepts as it is too costly, which they do a design study and from the information received will be utilized for the production car. Porsche and Ferrari rarely go to a show and bring out something that is just for the sake of a design study. Typically it is a car that has been testing for a year or so and is nearing production, which they want to show what the final product will appear before it starts getting built and shipped onto the showroom floors. Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Suzuki, to Peugeot, Renault, and Volkswagen spend money for impratical design cases. Typically the bigger companies build concepts cars just for show.
